I wanted to give everyone that has volunteered to chaperone our trip some new information regarding 2020 Washington DC Trip. Below is a message that will be sent out via Connect Ed from our principal, Mr. Eversole.
Good evening Marvin Ridge 8th Grade DC Field trip parents,
The County has sent an official statement concerning all field trips going forward in regards to the Coronavirus and the very recent declaration of a State of Emergency in North Carolina. This includes all in and out-of-state trips. Our Washington DC trip falls into this category. In light of this information, the trip has been cancelled. We do not have details at this time if it can be rescheduled. However the possibility will be very small due to the size and nature of this trip. Our travel agency, Orange Sky, will be giving us details about possible refunds. Realistically, with our time frame of cancellation, our expectations are low. We will provide that information to you when we have it.
This message is going to come as a frustration for some and a relief to others. We are definitely in a difficult situation as many have been voicing their options in both directions. The safety and well-being of our students and staff, along with the families of our community, will remain the priority. I thank you for your understanding and patience as this continues to unfold.
Jim Eversole
I, as the trip coordinator, am incredibly heart-broken and disappointed that our trip has been cancelled but understand. I have always been incredibly humbled by your support as a community and I hope you too can understand. We have worked tirelessly to plan this trip since March 2019, so you can imagine that staff is also disappointed as we all look forward to this trip. Again, thank you for your support have a good evening.
I also want to remind parents, since we are not going on the trip, school will be operating on a normal schedule tomorrow and the rest of the week.
